SSB Repeaters: Key Considerations & Mindset

Important points for candidates appearing for the SSB as repeaters to keep in mind.

A common question is: "What should the SSB repeaters keep in mind?" The first and most important thing to keep in mind is:

  • 1. It is the performance of this particular SSB which matters; there is no perception that assessors carry from your previous SSBs. Being a repeater is just a segregation of candidates and not your personality trait. Who knows how much you have improved. Let the assessors decide that.

  • 2. You must know what went wrong in your previous SSBs, at least as per your own assessment. If you haven’t done any assessment, you may be wearing the repeater badge again. You may be right or wrong in your assessment; it's absolutely ok, as long as you have done it honestly.

  • 3. The other repeaters are also in the same boat. Don’t get dominated by the one who has attended most SSBs. Neither take him/her lightly. ‘No. of SSBs appeared in’ is no measure to judge someone as superior or inferior.

  • 4. Repeaters don’t eat humans. If you are a repeater for the first time, don’t worry. You are still as safe as you were earlier. Repeaters also enjoy SSBs as all others do.

  • 5. GDs, Tasks, Screening etc. all remain the same. There are no separate topics, tasks, obstacles for repeaters.

  • 6. You are expected to do better in GTO and PI at least, because you have seen it before (in front of your eyes), provided you were out in conference. A benefit of doubt that may go in favor of a fresher may not go with you. And it's the right thing as well. You need not worry about it. Just leave no doubts and let them recommend you unanimously.

All the best. SSB is fun. Don’t let ‘being a repeater’ bother you.
